Though fall is my favorite season, spring takes a close second - mostly because bugs re-appear instead of dying. Seriously. I have no idea where this wasp came from, but Peek and Willow are downright fascinated.
So anyway, getting to the actual point of this post...one of my favorite things about warm weather is the ability to grill. Throw chick or steak in a marinade in the morning and stick it on the grill after work. Add a side salad and voila! You've created the simplest healthy meal known to man. Plus clean up is pretty darn easy.
And if you think that grilling is restricted just to meats, think again. Buzzfeed posted an article sponsored by Tablespoon about 21 Foods You Didn't Know You Could Grill...everything from cheese fries to snickerdoodle pies. Yum. Foil packets are really a griller's best friend.
Another favorite is Food Network's compilation of the best marinades and sauces for grilling. I love making my own Asian style meals because take-out Chinese makes me feel awful. The ginger and soy chicken? Perfect substitute.
Finally, I want to give my newest cookbook an honorable mention. A gift from my mother, Fifty Shades of Chicken: A Parody in a Cookbook has had me rolling in tears on the kitchen floor.
"You're going to play with your food?" I cluck sweetly.
"No, Miss Hen," he says giving me a menacing look.
Not all of them are recipes for the grill, obviously, but who can resist Backdoor Beer-Can Chicken (aka grilled beer can chicken with cajun mayonaise)???
And the best part about grilling? It's totally acceptable to sit by with a beer in hand and let the boyfriend do it.
