Lauren Berger is best known for her site, www.InternQueen.com, and her first book, “All Work and No Pay.” In her latest book, she gives advice on the next step after graduation: the real world. She covers the work place, time management, and even finances.
Sure, there are plenty of sources for articles about organizing your workplace, being productive, and how to dress for your first day of work. However, Berger covers much more, making her book a worthwhile read.
One of the most important things she covers is the topic of relationships. Before you skip to the image of you and a steamy co-worker in the copy room (although that does get covered), slow down. “P.O.P.” also known as petty office politics, can be difficult to deal with, and Berger does a great job explaining the most appropriate way to deal with it.
- Understand the importance of relationships in the office.
- Be observant of how your co-workers treat others.
- Be willing to listen. As she phrases it: “be the best friend.”
- Watch the drinking. Don’t drink too much around co-workers. I can end poorly.
Lauren Berger’s book covers much more in the category of relationships, but also on your personal brand, which goes hand and hand with relationships in the workplace. “Welcome to the Real World” is a great way to get a head start on the real world, or help you find your way through a struggle you’re already facing.
